About the podcast

April 15, 2017

We are not affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous in any way.

Sober Cast was started by one anonymous guy who is a member of AA and who couldn't find speaker meetings in a podcast format, there are plenty of podcasts about recovery, but I just wanted to listen to a speaker meeting using my podcast player. So, if you can't find the solution, create it!

That is why Sober Cast was started, I figure I can't be the only one interested in that. I am very determined to keep it ad free, so I paid all the fees to get started out of my pocket. Sober Cast launched in April of 2017 and if it's not self supporting by April 2018 I'm going to let it die a natural death.

If you like what I am doing and are interested in the podcast staying around longer than that please visit the donate page and drop a couple of dollars in our virtual basket if you are able.

I am hoping to get enough donations to add speakpipe to the website. Speakpipe is a service that turns the website into a recording device, you can record directly from your phone, laptop or tablet. Sober Cast can then download the recordings and edit togeather a podcast episode of you talking about a topic or just telling your story.

If you have a favorite speaker you would like added to the podcast, please let me know.

Our goal: Offering AA speakers and workshops in a podcast format without a great deal of commentary, there are lots of great recovery podcasts and websites where commentary and debate are a feature. We just want to provide speaker, workshop, or panel meetings in a fairly straight forward way.

About Anonymity: We respect the AA tradition of anonymity, some speakers choose to state their full names when they are being recorded, we are doing the best we can to edit out last names in all the recordings we upload. Please let us know if we miss one.

Editing: We will edit the recordings, but not for content or language. If they drop the f-bomb, so be it, if you don't approve please choose a different episode.

Some speakers do use their last name when speaking at meetings that are recorded, we will edit out those last names, if you hear one of the podcasts and there is a last name we missed, please let us know the episode and the approx time in the podcast.

We do attempt to clean up the recording quality, some speaker meeting recordings are poor quality or just very old and qreat recording wasn't an option. We will attempt to improve the quality of the sound, this isn't always possible but we do give it a shot.

Panel meetings will occasionally have Q&A at the end and often the questions asked can not be heard and are usually recapped by the speaker before answering, we will remove the inaudible sections and the long silences.

Copyright: We believe that AA speaker meetings are not copyrighted material.

That being said, we do not want to infringe on what you believe your rights are as a recording company. If you are a recording company and you believe you own the rights to an AA speaker meeting or workshop we have used in the podcast please get in touch.

We are happy to credit you and/or link back to your website where the recordings can be purchased, at your request we will remove the recording.
