This episode of Sober Cast is a bit of AA history, if you need to hear a meeting please pick a different episode, this is more accurately described as a bit of AA spoken history, a 1962 recording of Gene C who was 40 years sober at the time. He is speaking about the topic I dont hear much about anymore, the “Four Absolutes” of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The four absolutes were considered yardsticks in earliest days of the recovery program and come from the Oxford Group. If you would like to learn a bit more about them this is a good starting point (http://silkworth.net/pages/aahistory/fourabsolutes1.php).

Cecil C was sober 51 years at the time of this speak in 2003 in Marietta GA. Cecil is from from Prince Albert Saskatchewan and became sober in 1952.

Wyn H. from Brisbane Australia speaking at The 6th Anniversary of AA in Australia in 1954 at an unknown event. This is a really excellent quality recording for 1954, however the first 60 seconds were garbled so I removed that and we jump in with Wyn beginning the story of his first contact with AA. I do not know the context of this recording but it feels like it is a little different from a standard speaker meeting.

Alabam C is from Hollywood CA, she became sober in 1953 and she is telling her story at the 41st Tyler Anniversary in Tyler TX in 1988, she has a great sense of humor and carries quite a message. We have featured Alabam once before in July of 2018

AA founder Bill W speaking at an unknown event in Des Moines Iowa in Nov of 1948. Many of the recordings of Bill are him speaking on a specific topic, this one is not, he simply tells his story and how it leads to the creation of AA. This is a great quality recording for 1948.
