A New Pair of Glasses: Chuck C (Part 5 of 6)
Tuesday Jun 11, 2024
Tuesday Jun 11, 2024
I have had a number of requests to repost the speaks that became the book "A New Pair of Glasses". I originally posted this series in 2017, after 2600 Sober Cast episodes I am a bit better at audio cleanup, so I have gone back through and reworked the files a bit to improve the quality. Part 5 of 6.
Chuck C. was born in 1902, and got sober in A.A. in January 1946.
In these 1975 recordings of Chuck C. at the Pala Mesa Men's Retreat, Chuck shares his experience, strength and hope about recovering from alcoholism. He tells how he recovered from being a "tongue-chewing, babbling idiot drunk".
The Pala Mesa Men's Retreat had 64 AA men attending, these recording were made by one of these men on a small tape recorder, and the recording quality isnt fantastic but it is listenable.
This series of talks was eventually transcribed into the book "A New Pair Of Glass" The book is still available if you would like a copy https://scast.us/npog
If you have any AA or Al-Anon event coming up let me know I am happy to help get the word out. https://scast.us/event

Chuck C - 36 Years Sober
Thursday Feb 29, 2024
Thursday Feb 29, 2024
Chuck C was from from Laguna Beach California, he was 36 years sober at the time of this speak. Chuck was highly regarded as a speaker over the many years he was an active member of AA, he is also a pretty funny guy. This speak took place at an unknown meeting held in Houston Texas in June of 1982. It is an excellent quality recording. He one of my personal favorites.
Chuck is also credited as the author of the book "A New Pair of Glasses" in reality it is a transcript of a speak he gave at a mens retreat in 1975. Sadly the recording is pretty awful, a couple of years ago I attempted to reach Chuck's son to see if he would be willing to grant the rights to have it re-recorded and I was hoping he would be willing to do the recording (if you know who he is you can understand why). Unfortunately as hard as I tried I was never able to reach him, so on the slim chance any of you have his contact info please reach out.
If you want to give the book a read it is out of print but lots of copies are still floating around. It is not AA approved literature but its really excellent http://amzn.to/2FKdg9V
The "A New Pair of Glasses" audio is also available on Sober Cast but it was posted quite a while ago, if you have any issues finding it please just let me know and Ill repost it.
I just added the Crested Butte Montana Conference to the events list, this is a 5 day event and it sells out every year. Details: https://scast.us/cb

Dr Bob co-founder of AA speaking about his first 14 years.

Monday Jan 22, 2024
I was thinking of adding a forum or discord so folks can discuss the speaks or whatever sober related. It would be private, I want to know if you would be into that? I put a one question survey up to get your opinion and I would be very grateful. https://scast.us/discuss
Dr Bob the other founder of AA is our speaker today. He is telling his story about his first 14 years in AA, this was recorded in 1949. The end if this speak (about 6 min) is a bit of Dr Bobs last talk in 1950.
There are no where near as many recordings of Dr Bob as there are of Bill W and the ones that are around are generally fairly bad, this one had a nasty hum, but it cleaned up really well and is one of the best I have heard of Dr Bob. Repost from 2018.
I just added ISCYPAA 41 Young Peoples on the event list, its taking place in Illinois at the end of March https://scast.us/iscypaa41
The Southern States Women's Conference is coming up in Florida at the end of this month and space is still available. https://scast.us/sswc I also just added the South Carolina State Convention to the event list, coming up in March. https://scast.us/regscstate

Bill W telling his story and how it led to the creation of AA
Tuesday Aug 08, 2023
Tuesday Aug 08, 2023
AA founder Bill W speaking at an unknown event in Des Moines Iowa in Nov of 1948. Many of the recordings of Bill are him speaking on a specific topic, this one is not, he simply tells his story and how it leads to the creation of AA. This is a great quality recording for 1948. Repost
