Bill W telling a very personal version of his journey to sobriety

Bill W tells some of his story in this speak at the Oklahoma State Conference in Oklahoma City in May of 1951. Many of the speaks from Bill have to do with the creation of AA and its future, this one is much more personnel. Bill gets into his encounter with Ebby and the specifics of the conversation they had that started Bills journey to sobriety and creating AA.

This ends abruptly as Bill is telling the story about how it was suggested he should contact John Rockefeller. This audio cleaned up really well, it is one of the best quality recordings of Bill I have heard.

ESH: Jack B - Sober in 1953

Jack B got sober in July of 1953 and he is speaking at an event called the Brownwood Retreat. I have no idea when it took place but, the majority of the recordings I have of Jack are from the mid 70's through the mid 80's, so Im guessing this is from some time in there. He was a fairly popular circuit speaker back then.

ESH: Dewey S - One of the first 100 members of AA

It has been a while since we have had one of the really old timers on the podcast, so today we have Dewey S, a chronic inebrist from Cleveland Ohio, he is one of the first 100 members of AA.

Dewey is speaking in Modesto California in January of 1969 at an unknown event. The quality of this recording is excellent it cleaned up very well.

John S got sober in 1940, 12th stepped by Dr Bob he was 28 years sober at the time of this speak in 1968 on the 28th anniversary of the Brooklyn Group in Ohio. This recording is amazing quality for 1968.

AA History: How the 12 Traditions Were Born - Sybil C sober in 1941

Sybil C had been sober for 39 years at the time of this speak, she is from of Los Angeles and is speaking on the subject of How the Traditions Were Born, a topic she lived while working in the AA office in New York at the time of their creation.

Sybil got sober in 1941 after trying for 17 years, at her first meeting she was asked to wait out in the hall because it was a closed meeting and they thought she was one of the wives, not one of the drunks, she was also the first woman AA member on the East coast. I was a bit shocked at how well this cleaned up considering how it sounded on my first listen.

Franklin W got sober in October of 1956 he is from Olive Branch Mississippi, (his nickname is the pope of AA) is speaking on the 47th Founders Day in Akron Ohio in 1982. The brief opening remarks are by Lois W, Dr Bobs wife Annie was also at the event but does not speak. Really great quality recording for 1982.

AA founder Bill W speaking on each of the 12 traditions

This is AA founder Bill W speaking on each of the 12 traditions one at a time. I had posted a version of this in 2019, and recently came across this recording of the same speak with much better audio quality. That being said it took quite a while to get it cleaned up and it was missing the last 4 min. so I added the missing part from another copy . The quality is excellent except for the very end, this audio is from a film that was intended to be shown in AA meetings. I dont know exactly when it was made but it was after Dr Bob's death.

ESH: Geraldine D - Bill W got her sober in 1947

Geraldine D from Blairstown New Jersey was in Towns hospital seven times, Bill W was her friend and helped her get sober in 1947, she is telling her story at the 52nd Founders celebration . She is one of my favorite old time speakers and was 87 at the time of this speak.

This one is a bit of old timey AA, we have Frank S from Cleveland Ohio, he got sober in 1940 and is speaking at 23 years sober in Chautauoua New York.  This was recorded in 1963 and is a very listenable.
