AA History: Ebby T the man that made the call to Bill W

Ebby T is the man Bill W referred to as his sponsor, he is also the man that introduced Bill to the Oxford group, eventually leading to the formation of AA. Ebby had a tumultuous path in sobriety, regardless he remained a lifelong friend of Bill W. He tells some of the story about the formation of AA.

He is followed by Icky S another early member of AA. This was recorded in Kansas City in 1960 and for an old recording its very good. I did make a couple of small edits, I pulled the volume way down on the applause because it was painfully harsh and cut the length of some it as well.

On July 1st AA celebrated its 25th Anniversary with an International convention in Long Beach California. Introductions to the event by (in order of speaking) AA founder Bill Wilson, Lois Wilson, Ebby T, and Sister Ignatia. (Great audio quality)

After introductions Bill Wilson tells his story (as told in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous) with new insights, speaks on meeting AA Cofounder Dr. Bob S.(The Dr’s Nightmare), Dr. William Silkworth (The Dr.’s Opinion), the founding of AA in Akron OH, The writing of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, and a Humorous recounting of the Rockefeller’s Foundation Dinner that brought AA into the public eye, launching AA’s Growth.

Marty M author of the chapter - Women Suffer Too (Repost)

Marty M author of the chapter - Women Suffer Too, sober in 1940, she is one of the first female members of AA and was the first lesbian member of AA. This is her last talk given in 1960, she passed away in 1980.

I had to do much processing to this audio file to remove heavy background noise, as a result the voice is much cleaner, however that type of processing makes the applause sound like a jet flying overhead, there were a couple of places the applause was sustained, I shortened those applause sections. ESH: Dick P - Sober since 1940

Dick P from Cleveland OH and sober in 1940 is the speaker at this meeting held in Akron Ohio on the anniversary of an unknown meeting and time. The information I could find on him was sparse but I have the impression he was one of the folks involved in the first translation of the Big book into the Spanish language. (Please let me know if I have that wrong)

AA founder Bill W speaking in Atlanta in 1951 (Repost)

Bill W speaking in Atlanta July 1951, this is an hour and 20 min long and covers many topics, a great bit of AA history.

This is very listenable for a 1951 recording, I managed to get most of the hum out, you'll notice a few artifacts and there are a couple of sections with a weird buzz, but those only last a few seconds. (Repost from 2017)

EHS: Liz B (55 Years)

Liz B was 55 Years Sober at the time she told her story at this unknown event held in Richmond VA in 2007, she is very enthusiastic in her speak and has a ton of energy. The volume on this might feel a bit low, she has a tendency to go from quiet to very loud in an instant so I pulled the gain way down in attempt to save your ears, enjoy!

Dewey S: One of first 100 members of AA (Repost)

Dewey S from San Mateo CA at the 12th Michigan state conference, he is one of first 100 members of AA (sober in 1939) speaking in 1964, he was sober 25 years at the time of this speak. Great quality for a 1964 recording.
